53: It's Your Birthday 🎂

We're celebrating Top Floor's first birthday with a visit from our very first guest, Cat Meek. Susan and Cat did their very best to keep it together through this episode, but honestly, there is a LOT of laughter edited out. Thank you for supporting the show!

A Love Letter from Susan Barry:

I'm listening to yacht rock right now and thinking about the folks that got this show off the ground. Thank you to Tyler Jacobson, my first podcasting partner, for helping me fall in love with this medium. Thank you to Judy Maxwell, Anand Patel, and Neha Patel, who gave me a home at Long Live Lodging, for which the industry still mourns.

And most especially and forever, thank you to Jonathan Albano. Jonathan is the first person to think I might have a relevant voice, the enduring creative mastermind behind the sound of the show, and the everlasting cheerleader of my often counter-intuitive approach to hospitality. There would be no Top Floor without Jonathan Albano, and I remain forever in his debt. Also, thanks for sharing your daughters with me: Camryn is the glorious voice of the Top Floor theme song (which Jonathan composed), and Jordan is the design and marketing backbone, as well as my favorite person to Zoom with.

The guests that have allowed me to satisfy my curiosity at their expense are immeasurably amazing and, honestly, the reason I shifted from focusing on marketing to focusing on the future of hospitality. Thank you to all of the people who have allowed me to ask them questions, even those who were super confused about what a podcast was!

I promise to continue to bring you unbiased, un-paid-for stories from the unexplored and disruptive corners of hospitality. Thank you for listening!
